Terms of Use

These terms set the conditions for using McLean Residents Directory. By using the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

1. Nature of This Service

McLean Residents Directory is a privately operated reference to public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections connected to McLean, Virginia. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with any government office, court, or records custodian.

2. Acceptable Use

Use the site only for lawful purposes. You may not use it, or material reached through it, to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person
  • Locate a person protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit fraud or identity theft
  • Make FCRA-regulated decisions about credit, employment, tenant screening, or insurance
  • Scrape, reproduce, or republish site content at scale
  • Disrupt the site's operation or security

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency

McLean Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Nothing on the site or returned by a linked search tool is a consumer report. It may not be used to assess eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another FCRA-covered purpose.

4. External Services

Government portals, sponsored search tools, and other outside services have their own terms and privacy practices. We do not control their content, availability, prices, or data practices.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

The site is offered "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that site content is complete, current, or accurate, or that any linked service will function or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or other damages arising from use of this site or a linked resource, including decisions based on a record located through it.

7. Your Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold the site operators harmless from claims or demands, including reasonable attorneys' fees, resulting from misuse of the site or a breach of these terms.

8. Site Intellectual Property

The site's original text, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. You may link to pages and quote brief excerpts with attribution. Republishing complete pages or systematically copying content is prohibited.

9. Revised Terms

We may post an updated version of these terms on this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

10. Restricting Access

We may limit or block access, without notice, when a user violates these terms or abuses the site.

11. Virginia Law

These terms are governed by Virginia law without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Virginia's public-records statute is the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code §§2.2-3700-2.2-3715. VFOIA concerns existing public records held by a custodian; it does not require an agency to create a record or make every sensitive record public. The Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act is relevant background for covered controllers and consumer-rights requests, but it does not itself require a Fairfax County custodian to delete an official record.

12. Severability

If a provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
